Tonight at the Albany…

Times they are-a-changin’…

Rather than it always being Lorraine leading at the Albany, there are lots of brilliant ukulele, bass, and other instrument (tuba, tenor sax?) players who can, and will be leading at the Albany. If you’d like to have a go, please drop Lorraine a line and she’ll get you going for a song, an hour or a whole evening.

Tonight’s (and the 3rd Wednesday of each month from now) Albany Takeover is from…

(drumroll)…

(taadaa)…

Teri & Emerson!

Who are Teri & Emerson?

They are both longtime Ukulele Wednesdays regulars, who most of you know already. Both are brilliant players and lovely men to say hello and enjoy a pint and a strum with, so it seems fitting that they keep you strumming on the 3rd Wednesday of the month.

In their own words:

Teri Reed (Big Fluffy Bunny)

Teri

Far from his days as a teaboy on the Never Mind The Bollocks album, Teri is now an independent government consultant.
He first picked up a ukulele while helping the police with their enquiries in New Scotland Yard. The romantic fiction he writes in his spare time can be found on Amazon under a rather silly pseudonym…

Emerson (Ross Greenmore)

I took up guitar as a teenager and spent many years trying to wrestle it into submission, but never really tested myself alongside like-minded players. The arrival, five years ago, of my first uke was a revelation, especially after discovering the pleasures of Ukulele Wednesdays. I have been known to dabble in bass and mandolin too. And the youthful hours I spent deconstructing my favourite songs are paying dividends.

Now you’ve ‘met’ them, it’s time to get yourself along to the Albany every third Wednesday and strum along with them!

Want to Perform in a Supportive Place?

Hello there,

Please note the usual ukulele strumalong isn’t being replaced. This ‘open mic’ is only for 30 minutes, prior to the normal timed start for the group playing together. If you can’t bear to keep your ukulele in it’s case and listen to other people play a song or two, you can simply arrive at the usual start time to strumalong with everyone as normal. For everyone else…

Due to overwhelming demand, we’re going to start doing a monthly open mic bit 30 mins before the ukulele strumalongs are due to start at the Royal George and the Albany. If you’d like a reason to practice a song or 2 and you’d like to perform it in front of a supportive group of lovely people, why not take this opportunity? It’s free of charge to attend and perform, as it always is at Ukulele Wednesdays, so why not get involved? You don’t need to be a pro. It’s a supportive place to try out a song or two on your own or in a small group. Where do you think the pro’s started out? Everyone’s got to start somewhere!

When?

Once per month on a Wednesday. The Albany will be the 1st Wednesday of the month and the Royal George will be on the 3rd Wednesday of the month from September 2016.

Albany = 1st Wednesday of the month
Wednesday 7 September
Wednesday 5 October
Wednesday 2 November

George = 3rd Wednesday of the month
Wednesday 21 September
Wednesday 19 October
Wednesday 16 November

For more detailed information and to get involved, please join the relevant facebook group, as below.

How do I sign up to perform? Who do I talk to?

There are limited spots as we’ll only be doing the open mic for the first 30-45 mins of the night. Please shout up sharp(ish) if you want to play. If you want to perform at the Albany, join that facebook group and give Lorraine a shout. If you want to perform at the Royal George, join that facebook group and give Paul a shout. Search the events and post in the events if you can’t see who Lorraine or Paul are at first sight.

Cool. I think that’s everything. Strum with you soon!

Lorraine.

PS:
Know any more ukulele playing friends in London? Loads of people aren’t on the email list. For things like this, it’s handy, and getting the news in your inbox on email could save you an inconvenience of going to the wrong venue one week. Please make sure everyone you know is signed up so the news comes straight to yours and their inbox rather than in a social post that you might miss. Perhaps you could forward this email on to let your ukulele jamming friends know about this email list so that they can also join and know straight away if there are important updates like this in the future? Many thanks and look forward to strumming with you.

If you’re not into email, there’s always FB or twitter, so sorry for any repetition. Look forward to strumming with you!

Upcoming Ukulele Potential Picnics (Lemon Drizzle Dependent)

Hello!

It’s been a while since we had a picnic. Mainly because the weather has been a bit like this – rather than the stable weather we’ve known before. Each time it’s been lovely weather, the day before it has been torrential rain or vice versa. So, it’s time to pop a few dates in the diary with a caveat in place that if it’s drizzly, we’ll head to our usual strumming social of choice at the usual time.

From Wednesday 13 July until Wednesday 31 August, there is a chance that picnics may occur. If it’s quieter at your usual playing place, that’s why.

Want to join? Where? Just off the Easternmost path, roughly in line with the end of Cambridge Gate.

If that description doesn’t work for you, here’s some google maps coordinates:

See you there?

NB: Regardless of the alfresco acoustic sessions, we’ll be back at the Albany each time by 8:30pm, where it’s warm, and there are seats and toilets for those of us who like our creature comforts.

Strum with you soon!

Happy Uke Year! Come for the 1st Strum of 2016!

Hello!
I hope you all had a brilliant Christmas and New Year. It seems like forever ago that we were last at the Albany, but that’s about to be over. We’ll be back at the Albany tomorrow, for the first strum of 2016 on Wednesday 6 January. If you’re more local to The Royal George, or Walthamstow, please go there and say hello to everyone for me, but for those of you who are coming to Great Portland Street, I look forward to seeing you!
Strum with you soon amigos!

Strumming Despite The Tube Strikes…

Hello

There are plenty of alternative ways to navigate London. Walking, Boris Bikes & Buses are just 3.

I’ll be there, with my iPad from 6-11pm(ish) as usual. Come & join me for a strum if you fancy.

If you want to make it official, you can join the faceboook event here.

See you there!
